Obituary of Fredrick Hicks

On Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Mr. Fred Hicks of Lamont and formerly of Vermilion passed away at the Lamont Health Care Complex at the age of 96 years. Fred was born on September 5, 1913, the youngest child of Mary Rosetta (Rose) and Louis Randolph (Lou) Hicks. He married Ethel Wilson on November 30, 1940. He and Ethel had four children: Geraldine (Elliott) Urquhart of Calgary, AB, Blain (Judy) Hicks of Prince George, B.C., Barbara Montgomery of Camrose, AB and Beverley (Greg) Trevor of Sherwood Park, AB. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Wilfred, Bert, Earl and Clyde and sisters Lillian Stonehouse and Pauline Keating, his granddaughter Shelly Hicks, many nieces and nephews and his loving wife, Ethel, of 67 years. Fred was a kind, gentle, loving and honorable man who lived a wholesome life. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, and could always be counted on when he was needed. He will be remembered with a great deal of love by his children, their spouses, his grandchildren: Jamie (Laura) Urquhart, Michael (Lorraine) Urquhart, Dean (Lisa) Hicks, Shannon Hicks, Cory Hicks, Candace Trevor, Ashley Trevor, Serena Montgomery and David Montgomery, his great-grandchildren: Evan Urquhart, Sean Urquhart, Ben Urquhart, Tommy Urquhart, Jared Hicks and Keara Hicks, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Fred grew up on a farm north of Vermilion. He and Ethel lived in Derwent from 1940 until 1966, when he was transferred to Vegreville by Alberta Government Telephones (now Telus), and lived in Vegreville until Ethel’s passing on November 25, 2007. Fred’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Lamont Health Care Centre for the special care that he received there. He was very fond of them all and we, his family, appreciated knowing that he was being so well cared for. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in his memory would be appreciated. A Funeral Service for Fred will be conducted from St. Saviour's Anglican Church, Vermilion on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m with Reverend Keith Marsh officiating. Following the service he will be laid to rest next to his wife Ethel in Vermilion Public Cemetery. Donations may be made tot he charity of the donor's choice.
