Betty was born in Vermilion and lived on the family farm through her school years. She moved to Edmonton to begin her working career after graduating from the Vermilion College. She soon married and returned to farming life on a farm just outside of Fort Saskatchewan. Betty moved back to Vermilion in 1967 along with her seven children where she continued to raise them with the help of her Mom and Dad, her sister Pat and her husband Dave.
>
> Betty worked at the elementary schools in Vermilion, first starting out as a secretary and finishing her career as a librarian. She was an avid curler in the winter and a dedicated gardner in the summer.
>
> After retirement, Betty devoted much of her time to traveling and tending to her garden. She won multiple gardening awards and was very proud of the heritage tree that still sits in her yard today.
>
> Betty was known to tell it like it was, especially when talking politics, and she had a great sense of humor. Many of her children and grandchildren share her sense of humour. She was known to have a good chuckle over an off colour joke and on occasion, would tell one herself.

> The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Vermilion Valley Lodge, the doctors, nurses and all other staff at the Vermilion hospital for their kind, patient and compassionate care of mom over the years.
