Obituary of Laura Anne Flexhaug

Laura Anne Flexhaug, age 71, passed away peacefully at RUH in Saskatoon with her family by her side. She was born August 11,1949 in Lashburn, Saskatchewan to Emil and Mick Ponto. The Ponto family moved from Lashburn to Lloydminster in 1967 and Laura graduated from Lloydminster Comprehensive School in 1968 – the first graduating class in the new school. Laura worked as a nursing aide in the Axillary nursing home for several years and then left to stay home with her two children. Laura began to baby sit from her home looking after many of her friends’ children. When these children grew older, she obtained employment at several restaurants as a dishwasher before her eventual retirement in 2015. After retirement Laura kept herself busy volunteering endless hours at many organizations like the Interval store and LABIS. Laura married the love of her life, Art Flexhaug on April 30, 1970. They quietly celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Lloydminster this past April. Sadly, Covid kept family and friends away, but Laura and Art were able to go out for a quiet meal to celebrate. She leaves behind two children and her beloved grandchildren: Deborah & husband Thomaze Flexhaug Preece and Brad Flexhaug and his partner Linda. She is also survived by her loving sisters Chris and her husband Bryan Lansford and their children Tenille and Scott, along with her two great nieces and two great nephews and oldest sister, Linda and her husband Jim Morris and their children Wendy, Catherine and Erin along with three great nieces and one great nephew. Laura also leaves behind her grandchildren Sam, Samantha, Sara, Erich, and Liam. Laura will be remembered fondly by her many, lifelong friends from Lloydminster and surrounding area. Laura was a home body and was very content to stay close to home near her family, friends and cats. A stubborn woman who never minced words, Laura never hesitated to speak her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. When she added you to her heart, she loved you like family, unconditionally. When company was coming to visit, Laura would start cooking a week ahead and always made sure she had her traditional “green spaceship salad” that was served at every meal. Laura was pandemic ready for years; she would buy two or three of everything and drive Art nuts. She was everything to everyone – wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend to everyone. There are so many wonderful memories too immense to list. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses of Lloydminster Hospital and University Hospital of Saskatoon who had direct patient care with Laura. The family wants to give gratitude and appreciation to these frontline workers who had become her advocate when her family were not able to be by her side due to Covid restrictions.
