Obituary of Merilyn Mabel King

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Merilyn Mabel (McAfee) King of Calgary. Merilyn passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021 after a short but determined battle with cancer. Merilyn was born to Glen and Margaret McAfee on June 17, 1942 in Lloydminster, AB. She grew up on the farm in the Rosedale area north of Edgerton. She graduated high school and moved to Edmonton to embark on her teaching career. While in Edmonton she met Ron King and they were married on June 26, 1965. Merilyn had a long and rewarding teaching career that spanned over 30 years. During that time she raised two sons, Glen and Allan, was a fulltime teacher and a farmwife. After she retired from teaching she loved to travel, dance, sing and spend time with her family. She is survived by her children Glen (Carmen) King of Wainwright and their children Steven and Sarah, and Allan (Tammy) King of Camrose and their children Charlotte, Veronica and Russell. She is also survived by her siblings, Dorothy Jean Duker, Judy (Luc) Chartrand, Anne Witzaney (Fred Rumak) and Alex (Deborah) Witzaney; as well as her sister-in-law, Sharon King. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved and whose lives were always of special interest to her. She was predeceased by her husband Ron; her parents, Glen and Margaret McAfee; her in-laws, Ralph and Joy King; her nephew Greg Duker; her nephew Bobby Adams; her brother in law Norman King; her sister in law Patricia Hartley; and her baby sister, Margaret Lynn.
