Obituary of James Gerome Kinney
James Kinney, of Vermilion, AB, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 at Vermilion Continuing Care. He lived a full life to the age of 99.
James was born in Armoy, County Antrim (Ireland) and immigrated to Canada at the age of 8. His family first arrived to Quebec City on May 16, 1926 and then travelled to Clandonald, AB to claim their horse, cart, house and plot of land.
James married Pauline Trach at age 28 and settled in Clandonald, three years later they had daughter, Eunice Mary (deceased Oct., 2013).
During his life, Jim lived in Clandonald, Vermilion, Lloydminster and Wainwright, AB, also, Vancouver, BC.
He held various jobs in -- farming, restaurants and bars, road maintenance, construction, and more.
James loved music. He played the fiddle and harmonica, as well, loved to dance, sing and do a jig. Jim also loved to garden, ride his bike, and tell stories.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Pauline Kinney (Lloydminster), granddaughters Terra Brown (New Westminster) and Suann Brown (Kelowna) and grandchildren Chloe and Emily Nottingham and Ryder and Senna Rock; as well as many extended family -- nieces and nephews and close friends. He is preceded in death by his brothers (Kinney) Dan, Tom, John, Pat, Joe, Tony and Chuck and his sister, Mary (McCambridge).
The family shares a heart-felt thank you to all the staff at Vermilion Continuing Care who cared for, laughed with, and dealt with his strong will, over the past several years.
A funeral service will be held on Fri., Feb. 24, 2017 at 11 a.m., Holy Name Catholic Church, Vermilion, followed by a burial and reception at the Vermilion Legion. All are welcome to attend.
