Obituary of Jeanette Florence Murray

Jeanette Florence (Heffren) (Gordon) Murray Jeanette was the daughter of Leslie and Emily (Brown) Heffren. She was born July 25, 1927 in Edgerton Alberta at the home of Mrs Bullymore, the local midwife. Education was an important part of her life. Jeanette was the Correspondence supervisor at Battle Valley School, becoming a teacher in 1946. She taught at various schools and finally at Pelican School in 1949. She met and married Donald Gordon; they had one son, David, born March 1951. Tragedy struck and Donald died in a farming accident in July 1951. She returned to teaching in Edgerton in 1957. Jeanette married John Murray in 1968 and lived on the Murray family farm in Chauvin for many years. She was involved in many organizations. She was a charter member and life member of the Edgerton ACW, a Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and a long time member of the Legion Auxiliary. Jeanette and John loved to travel visiting Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Nova Scotia and wintered for several years in Victoria. Tours of Alberta roads were of special interest as they loved to watch the progress of the fields. They moved into the Dr Hemstock Assisted Living Residence in Lloydminster in January 2002 and enjoyed living and interacting with the residents and staff She was predeceased by her parents Leslie and Emily Heffren, her first husband Donald (1951), her son David (1987), second husband John (2002) and brother-in-law Vernon Knutson (2010). She is survived by her sister, Linda Knutson of Cold Lake, grand-daughter Sara Gordon of Nahanni Butte, NWT, daughter-in-law Martha Gordon of London, Ontario, sister-in-law Mary Murray of Provost as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Donna Bengtson for all her dedicated care and assistance to Jeanette. It was very much appreciated. A Celebration of Jeanette's life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Edgerton Agricultural Hall at 2:00 p.m. with Canon Michael Stonhouse officiating. In keeping with her wishes Jeanette was cremated at Creech's Crematorium and her cremains will be interred in the Battle Rive Lutheran Cemetery. If so desired donations in memory of Jeanette may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
