Obituary of Robert Magill

Robert Murray Magill was born March 12, 1924 in Veteran Alberta to Hugh and Cassie Magill. Robert had one brother Stanley, born in 1919. Stanley passed away in 1976. Robert married Dorothy Bailey on June 6, 1948. In June of this year they would have been married 65 years. They moved to the original homestead and his parents, Cassie and Hugh retired to the old Art Hughes farm where Hugh died suddenly on June 10, 1950. Robert and Dorothy had 3 children, Faye, Murray and Donna. Robert lived on the family farm for 87 years. He and Dorothy moved to the Hanna Lodge in February of 2011. Robert was inquisitive and liked the challenge of learning. Robert was determined and optimistic. If he was told it couldn’t be done he would set out to prove otherwise. Robert loved music and played the accordion and piano. Robert was a avid sports fan, never missing a curling, hockey or baseball game. Towards the end of Robert’s life it was very difficult for our family to watch him struggle. He always remained strong and optimistic and this is how our family will remember him. Robert passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Hanna Health Care Complex, Hanna, AB, at the age of 89 years. Robert is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; Children, Faye (Terry) Strashok of Sherwood Park, Murray (Marlene) Magill of Hemaruka, Donna McIntyre of Westlock; 6 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Service is on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:00PM in the Veteran Full Gospel Church, Veteran, AB. Pastor Darrel Durksen officiating.
