Obituary of Hilda Laura Wahl

After a long and brave battle with cancer with no retreat and no surrender, Hilda Laura Wahl passed away on May 19, 2013 at the Coronation Hospital and Care Centre. Left to cherish her memory and miss her positive presence are her husband of 40 years, Edmund; her son Trent, wife Amanda, children Seth, Taytum and Jaden; her son Grant, wife Jaimie and children Taryn and Aurora; her daughter Christy; her brother Hugh McLarty (Linda); sisters Joan Connors (Keith), Mildred Larson (Gordon), Bonny Melvin (Darrel), sister-in-law Jackie McLarty, brother-in-law Doug Brown as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends. Hilda was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Marion McLarty, her youngest sister Lynn Brown, her older brothers Charles and James McLarty, and her in-laws Anna and Mike Peters. Hilda, the fifth child of Hugh and Marion McLarty of Silver Heights, was born August 20, 1953 in Coronation. She attended Brownfield School for grades 1-9 and graduated from Coronation High School in 1972. On November 18, 1972 Hilda married her soul mate and best friend, Edmund Wahl. Through hard work and dedication she and Ed built a successful farm. Hilda spent her time raising their three children and working alongside Ed on the farm. In the past thirteen years she found the new joy of being Grammy and delighted in every moment spent with her Grandkids. Whether it was decorating cookies, doing crafts, planting seeds or cuddling, she enjoyed every minute. Hilda was known for making Brownfield a better place to live through committing countless hours to Girl Guides, promoting the continuation of excellence at Brownfield School and supporting recreation and social activities, as well as programs for the children of the community. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by family and friends sharing conversation, food and fun with emphasis on fun. Throughout Hilda’s chemo treatments she crocheted dozens of C.C. (Colon Cancer) Gifts Bags. She then sold them and all the proceeds were donated to the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada.
