Obituary of Martha Ruth Johnson

On Tuesday July 8th 2014 Miss Martha Johnson of Edmonton passed away at the Kensington Good Shepherds Care Center, Edmonton at the age of 98 years. Martha is survived by her loving family, her brother Howard Johnson of Battle River Lodge, Wainwright. Five nephews, Keith (Doris) Johnson of Wainwright, David ( Lorna ) Johnson of Sherwood Park, Alberta, James Johnson of Calgary, Alberta, Martin (Darlene) Dixon of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Grant (Colleen) Dixon of Red Deer, Alberta. Also numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents William and Katherine Johnson, sister, Doris Dixon and brother Maurice Johnson. A funeral service will be held 10 AM, July 16th 2014 at the Kensington Good Shepherds Care Center 12603, 135th Ave. Edmonton. Despite her own physical handicaps, Martha had a full working career with the Province of Alberta: first with the Department of Vital Statistics and later at Alberta Healthcare. Her proudest achievements involved the creation of an endowment at the University of Alberta where she funded the purchase of motorized wheelchairs for physically impaired students. Interment will follow in the Wainwright Public Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Martha can be made at the donors choice or to the Martha Johnson Endowment Fund, University of Alberta.
