I was shocked and saddened, both professionally and personally to hear of the loss of Laureen. My thoughts go out to her family, Brad, colleagues, staff and friends. I was at Waterloo with Laureen, and although I didn't know her well, I remember her as a genuine and kind person. Her professional contribution to optometry in Alberta and Canada is very appreciated and she will be sorely missed. I will make a donation to the Calgary Food Bank in her memory.

I was the senior partner at Total Focus Optometry who hired and employed Dr Laturness for her first three years of optometry practice in Edmonton. I had the pleasure of watching this bright, sort of shy but quietly confident young lady thru her first few professional years. She was a first rate optometrist, and even more, was a fine human being. She became a leader in her profession and community. "Giving back" was just part of who Laureen was. Her family, and those close to her should be proud of her. We are all poorer for the loss of Dr L. May you rest in peace. Dr Jerry Berg

Laureen was a wonderful person that will be missed. From my family to yours, our heartfelt condolences. I was a classmate of Laureen's and I last saw her at a meeting in Cuba. I am saddened to hear of Laureens' passing. I was in her optometry class, and recently met up with her at a conference in Vancouver a couple of years ago. Laureen was always a pleasure to be around, a calm, and gentle influence in an often frazzled world. “I am always saddened by the death of a good person. It is from this sadness that a feeling of gratitude emerges. I feel honored to have known them and blessed that their passing serves as a reminder to me that my time on this beautiful earth is limited and that I should seize the opportunity I have to forgive, share, explore, and love. We are shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Laturnas' sudden passing. She was a consummate professional in her management of our shared glaucoma patients here in Edmonton. We communicated often about her own patients and their follow-up care. She was a strong advocate for her patients and for the restoration of their vision. She will be remembered by many.
